Making New Friends | One of the key aspects, at the beginning of a school year, is connecting and building relationships with your peers and teachers. In our Early Years class, the students are learning about how ‘friendships enrich our lives and require nurturing in order to develop’. Throughout the unit of inquiry, the students will develop and grow their relationships by making connections, communicating their thoughts and sharing their ideas. How do you make meaningful relationships? |

|
| Developing Gross Motor Skills | The young children within our Early Years division require the time to practice using their gross motor skills in everyday activities. Gross motor skills include running, jumping, throwing, hopping, crawling, etc. Practicing these skills help children learn how to control and coordinate their body movements. During our After School Program, our sports coordinator, Mr. Bastyan really encourages the students to take a step out of their comfort zone and be active with their peers. | |

Teaching Strategies in EAL Lessons | In our English as an Additional Language lessons, Ms. Othova uses different teaching and learning strategies to introduce new concepts, as well as, help students develop and build their English vocabulary. The students engage in activities that include: matching pictures and words; memory “What is Missing?” activities; and rhythm & sound activities which help students pronounce words correctly. Who knew learning could be so much fun!?! |

| The Adventure Begins in the ISB Library | Come visit the ISB Primary Library and dive into a good book. Between the pages you can drift off into a great adventure, mystery, romance or comedy. We also have books in different languages so students have the opportunity to learn a new language or practice reading in another language. ISB Primary students enjoy their lessons in the library because they get to review and discuss their favourite books, as well as recommend them to their friends. What is your favourite story or novel? | |

Learning How to Explain and Persuade in English Class | It’s really important to learn how to convince people to take your ideas seriously. Everyone needs to find the ways that work best for them. Using language, images, graphs, body language, and other communication tools, the Year 8s did an activity inspired by Dragon’s Den or Shark Tank. Students needed to come up with a business idea and be as convincing as they could. Some of them were very funny! They deserve all the credit as they went way beyond expectations and made some pretty cool presentations about their ideas. |

| Well Being Lessons at ISB | The new Vice Principal, Mr Kurt Bonser, has been delivering well-being lessons to all the classes. It is important that we take the time to help students understand and make their way through the often complex social dynamics of adult life. Our students recently did a deep dive on peer pressure, which can both help us make the right decision or make us feel like we should do things that we perhaps should not. | |

Keeping Up with Current Events - Women’s Rights in Iran | We try to be very mindful that as our students learn and grow, they get regular opportunities to discuss the world beyond ISB. What’s currently happening in Iran is very significant in the worldwide conversation about women’s rights. It’s our responsibility to help the next generation be aware of their values and priorities as, one day soon, they will be the ones in charge. We want them to feel prepared for that responsibility. | | ISB Students Recording their Winning Stories for Radio Prague International. #creativewriters #letswrite | Last year, several ISB students participated in a writing competition. The theme of the contest was ‘Family History’ with students talking about important or difficult decisions that were made by a parent, a grandparent or other relative. They were to explore how they feel about that decision and to reflect on the impact it may have had on them personally. Many of our student’s submissions were finalists, which gave them the chance to have their work recorded for a Prague International Radio broadcast. They also attended an awards ceremony in Prague. Well done! | | Bonus Fun Pic - Adam Sandler Day in Year 10 | We’re extremely proud of the sense of fun and spontaneity that the Year 10s showed on a special day they came up with all on their own. It all started with “Hey! Wouldn’t it be funny if tomorrow we all dressed up like Adam Sandler?” Yes, it was funny. | |
