The last adventure club of 2024!đ |
On top of our usual adventures, we witnessed the commencement of the Christmas treeâs journey to NĂĄmÄstĂ Svobody! Itâs been exactly 100 years since this tradition started in connection with charity fundraising! This tradition was brought to central Europe thanks to the artist Rudolf TÄsnohlĂdek, who found an abandoned baby girl in the woods near BĂlovice right before Christmas, saved her and started this tradition in her honour. |

Exploring 3D Images |
Year 8 students have been exploring how human vision works in their Digital Design class. We can use the limitations of our vision to make images that âappearâ to be 3D to us: anaglyphs. Once the effect was understood, the students went on to create their own anaglyphs. |

Exploring the Civil Rights Movement |
Year 12 DP History students have been looking at the Civil Rights Movements and are preparing for an upcoming exam. To help with this process, they collaborated to create a timeline of the US Civil Rights Movement together. By creating study materials together, students are able to consolidate their knowledge by talking it out, writing it down and arranging the information visually. These exam preparation methods help ensure they are ready on exam day. |

Well-Being Program Update: PYP
This month, our well-being program has focused on building essential skills like communication, emotional awareness, and teamwork.
We began by practicing active listening through activities like our Follow-the-Directions Drawing and partner discussions. Next, students explored how to express and understand their emotions using tools like the Emotion Wheel.
We then shifted, later on in the month, to teaching conflict-resolution strategies and how to use "I" messages to resolve disagreements respectfully with our peers. Finally, students collaborated on projects like building bridges and creating art, emphasizing teamwork, turn-taking, and idea-sharing.
Itâs been a month full of growth, and weâre excited to continue supporting our students on their well-being journey!
Well-Being Program Update: MYP & DP
This month, our Mind Matters Club gave a presentation on drug abuse to their fellow students. They discussed the effects of drug abuse on well-being and the consequences it carries. The presentation also outlined responses students could use if pressured to take drugs and suggested alternatives to engaging in drug use.
For our wellbeing sessions, Years 7 and 13 focused on relationships, with Year 7 emphasizing hurtful behavior and Year 13 exploring routes to parenthood. The other year groups concentrated on various aspects of health and wellbeing. Years 8, 9, and 10 examined unhealthy coping strategies, with Year 9 delving deeper into the topic of vaping, while Year 10 addressed substance abuse. Years 11 and 12 focused on mental health issues that commonly affect students, including depression, anxiety, stress, and negative body image.
Next month, many year groups will be concluding these topics and working on their class projects related to them. |
