"LEARN, GROW, AND BE UNIQUE WITH ISB"

SEPTEMBER 2024 NEWSLETTER

Welcome to the 2024/2025 school year!

We are thrilled to see so many smiling faces, both new and familiar, filling our school once again. It’s wonderful to have the hallways buzzing with energy and excitement. Together with our dedicated teachers and staff, I am confident that our core values—Respect, Hard Work, and Fun—will be a daily part of our school environment.

It was also fantastic to see so many parents join us on the first day, and we look forward to connecting with all of you at our events throughout the year, starting with the School BBQ on September 13.

Wishing everyone a productive, peaceful, and fulfilling school year ahead!

EARLY YEARS

Knowledgeable Book Readers

All of our students from Early Years 1 to Year 6 have a weekly designated library session with our PYP librarian. Fostering the love of reading from a small age is fundamental in building key literacy skills from early on.

You can find magic, wherever you look. Sit back and relax, all you need is a book. Dr. Suess

Inquiring into Letters

Our Early Years students start their phonics journey by creating a snake jigsaw puzzle together and practising writing and sounding the letter S, through a variety of fun games.

Team Spirit

Our first few days in Primary are dedicated to teamwork and collaboration with peers to set a positive tone for the academic year. A range of engaging activities are done to help build a strong sense of community and belonging amongst the students. Ensuring the Well-Being of the class is the base for academic success.

PRIMARY

Principled Pupils

At the start of the year students co-create essential agreements for creating a safe, fun and respectful classroom environment. These agreements are signed by students and displayed in the classroom for continuous reflection.

SECONDARY

Language & Culture

As the school continues on its path to become an IB continuum school, we have added some new subjects.  One of them is Language and Culture.  Under the guidance of our School Librarian, our students get the chance to explore and share their first language (most of our students’ first language is not English!) and culture with their classmates from around the world.

Understanding MYP Assessment Criteria

Year 7 English Literature students break down the MYP language and literature criteria that they will be assessed on for the next five years as MYP students. Students created posters for each criterion while also defining, finding synonyms, and rewording the strands to better understand them.

HIGH SCHOOL

Collaborative Math Lesson

The Year 11's inquired on linear and quadratic sequences in Maths class. They worked in groups to discover patterns in the number sequences and applied their critical thinking skills to come up with strategies to create term to term and position to term rules.

Environmental Systems and Societies (ESS)

One of the things we really love about the IB Diploma Programme is that it has interdisciplinary learning built into it.  ESS is a subject that students can take either as a Science course or as an Individuals & Societies course.  It looks at the complex nature of the environment, the impact that societies have on the environment and explores different management strategies that can help us be good caretakers of the world around us.

Well-Being

"Hello ISB Community! This week in September we've been working on establishing well-being procedures in the classrooms and presenting our well-being philosophy to our ISB community. Our well-being goals are to make sure that students are always safe and comfortable within the classroom. Well-being is the responsibility of a community, and we hope to team together with all involved to make this happen. We've been promoting well-being in our home rooms and hallways, as seen in our picture below, and we look forward to collaborating together to make well-being an integral part of our community culture."
