"LEARN, GROW, AND BE UNIQUE WITH ISB"

FEBRUARY 2025 NEWSLETTER

EARLY YEARS

Feast for the Senses

Through an interactive summative share, our little learners and parents delved into the world of senses. Food Tasting, Match the Scent and Identify the Musical Instrument, were just a few of the engaging activities our parents and students inquired into together to reflect on everything they had learned throughout their unit.

Magic Meets Science

Our little inquirers learned about liquids and capacity and then created their own magical concoctions like characters from their story books. In addition to this magical fun, students used their mathematical measuring skills and their science knowledge to explore deeper into the world of potions.

PRIMARY

Mad Scientists

Our students investigated various structural adaptations by completing tasks related to that adaptation. From trying to pick up utensils using claws to testing the effect of blubber as insulation, students put their critical thinking skills to the test.

Creating a Love for Reading

Students engage with novels related to our current Unit of Inquiry. Students read their weekly chapter/s at home or in their own time, then bring their questions, connections, thoughts, and reflection into their weekly Literacy Circle meeting. As part of a small group, the students participate in a small book-club type atmosphere, where they build a shared understanding of what they have read and engage in a classroom culture of reading and talking about reading.

SECONDARY

Music

Music students applying their knowledge of story structure in order to create unique musical compositions! Just as stories often have a beginning, middle and end, so often do musical compositions. Exploring the links between different subjects is what makes learning such fun!

Virtual Reality

Year 8 students are exploring augmented and virtual reality. What started as fun with intro games will soon transform into creating their own virtual reality. This will help the students see the opportunities that await them in the ever-digital future.

HIGH SCHOOL

Stem Club in Action

Our STEM club students have been exploring the fundamental concepts of voltage and current by creating simple electrical circuits. They’ve even been consolidating their knowledge by creating websites that document their learning.

Cooking Classes in Language & Culture

While sharing aspects of their culture with the class, high school students have been learning some practical skills in the kitchen.  Cooking is an essential part of culture, a part that we participate in as much as we experience.

PYP Well-Being at ISB

In January, while focusing on being balanced, we spent a lot of time reflecting on what balance is and why we need it in our lives. Students were introduced to cyber safety websites that provide engaging platforms full of information about staying safe online. Navigating the virtual world was a priority during well-being time this past month, helping students develop essential digital citizenship skills. Our students have demonstrated remarkable balance in their thoughtful approach to technology and cyber safety. Through guided discussions and activities, they have explored healthy screen time habits and developed strategies to navigate digital spaces responsibly. Their ability to engage mindfully with technology while prioritizing their well-being has been inspiring to witness. Additionally, we have focused on conflict resolution techniques, emphasizing the importance of empathy, communication, and de-escalation strategies. Students have actively practiced skills to manage disagreements and strengthen their friendships. Safety and respectful interactions have been significant themes this past month, fostering a supportive and harmonious classroom environment

Secondary and Highschool

Well-Being at ISB

This month our secondary focused on Seasonal depression. Our Mind Matters Club had an assembly to inform the student body what depression is, what the symptoms and causes are, and what individuals can do to help manage it. They worked in groups to do positive affirmations, played games, and gave suggestions for activities students can do around the city to help them keep active in the winter months.
